ALBUM REVIEW: Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music

As I'm sure anyone who has heard at least one Velvet Underground album can tell you, Lou Reed is a singular artist: he's a forward-thinking musician, always daring to push the boundaries of what can be done with rock in his music. From art pop to proto-punk to whatever the fuck "The Gift" is, Lou Reed was always thinking two steps ahead... which brings us to Exhibit A here. Metal Machine Music is an album by no right-thinking man (maybe a left-thinker), with its two discs (the Old and New Testament as I call them) containing roughly the same contents of guitar feedback across more than an hour total. While I would love to talk some Metal Machine Music with you lads, I must admit that I am quite hungry. Luckily, I know just the solution! Recently I've learned a great recipe for Fettuccine Alfredo that's quick, easy, and perhaps even succulent.

Ingredients:

-1 pound fettuccine noodles

-1 stick butter

-1 cup heavy cream

-2 cups freshly grated Parmesan

-Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Cook the pasta according to package directions. In a saucepan or skillet over low heat, warm the butter and cream. Season with salt and pepper. Place half of the Parmesan into a large serving bowl. Pour the warm butter/cream mixture over the top. Drain the pasta and immediately pour it into the bowl. Toss a couple of times, and then sprinkle in the other half of the Parmesan. Toss to combine, thinning with pasta water if necessary. Serve immediately as a main course or accompaniment to meat or salad. Delicious!

The recipe really is that simple, and frankly I feel pretty energized after making it.
